At least eight people were killed after a passenger bus plunged a few feet below into a 'nullah' on Friday in Punjab. The accident took place in  Kot Shamir Road when the bus was en rote Bhatinda from Talwandi Sabo was crossing a bridge.

Both teams started off strong, looking to break each others' back line in the first quarter but no team were able to breach the barrier.

The officials said that the locals rushed to the spot immediately to help the people get out of the bus.

PTI earlier reported that over 20 passengers were injured in the accident.

Bathinda Urban MLA Jagroop Singh Gill spoke to Hindustan Times regarding the tragic accident where he said, "Five died on the spot while three succumbed to serious injuries during treatment. Nearly 18 are being treated at the Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital. The health officials have instructed to ensure treatment."

The police and district administration also launched a rescue operation and took the injured to a hospital.
