A total of 27 new economic zones or expansion have been proclaimed under the Marcos administration, industrial hubs that will soon be added to the more than 400 that are currently operating in the country.

Speaking to reporters, ADB country director for the Philippines Pavit Ramachandran said the Manila-based multilateral lender was targeting to green-light the first round of financing under a multi-tranche loan to bankroll the Laguna Lakeshore Road Network project later this year.

According to Foreign Buyers Association of the Philippines (Fobap) President Robert Young, they exported around $50 million worth of mixed apparel to South Korea in 2023.

Tereso Panga, director general Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza), on Tuesday told reporters there were 11 Presidential proclamations for these economic hubs issued in 2023 and 16 this year.

“(They’re) a mix of IT and also manufacturing ecozones,” Panga said, adding that investments of P75 billion have been allotted for these new economic zones.

The new ecozones that were established under proclamations in 2023 include Robinsons Cyberpark Bacolod in Bacolod City; two land expansion for the Lima Technology Center in Malvar, Batangas; expansion for the Hermosa Ecozone Industrial Park in Bataan; Felcris Centrale IT Park in Davao City; and Philtai Central Luzon Industrial Park in Pampanga.

Completing the list in 2023 are ECCO 4 Building in Baguio; Naga City Industrial Park in Camarines Sur; Lopue’s Mandalagan IT Center in Bacolod City; Marina Town Dumaguete in Negros Oriental; and two land expansion for the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Economic Zone in Sarangani.

Meanwhile, the proclamations in 2024 include two more land expansion for the Lima Technology Center; SevinaPark Commercial in Biñan City; ArcoViaCity in Pasig; MetroCas Industrial Estates-SEZ in Cavite; Taft East Gate in Cebu City; TupiIT Park in South Cotabato; Victoria Industrial Park in Tarlac; two land expansion for the Gateway Business Park in Cavite; Grid in Iloilo; NDC Industrial Estate in Cavite; TARI Estate in Tarlac; land expansion for the West Cebu Industrial Park in Cebu; and Xentromall Antipolo in Rizal.

Aside from the new economic zones, 427 are also currently in operation in various locations across the Philippines.
